Peterborough Jiu Jitsu

Peterborough Jiu Jitsu began in 1993, when the first classes were taught at Trent University. In 1998 the Peterborough YMCA club was formed, which moved to the Peterborough Multi-Sport Club in 2019. In the summer of 2021 we relocated to Champions Gymnastics, 2410 Lansdowne St W, Cavan-Monaghan, ON K9J 0G5. The club runs year-round. New members, including complete beginners, are welcome at any time.

Instructors

Gerry Taillon - began training at the Peterborough YMCA club under Andy Dobie in March of 2007. Through 2009 Gerry was also a regular student of Kenn Gibb at the Trent University club. With two young children of his own and an eye to the future, Gerry took the opportunity to open the Peterborough YMCA Youth Jiu Jitsu Club in January of 2012, while also serving as an occasional instructor at the Peterborough Jiu Jitsu Club. In September 2020 Gerry took over teaching the youth & family class at the Peterborough Jiu Jitsu Club. 

Andy Dobie - began his study of jiu jitsu in 1985 in Plymouth, England, with The Jiu Jitsu Foundation, and has been teaching since 1988. In 1993 he moved to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada and founded Jitsu Canada. Andy is the president and head instructor of Jitsu Canada.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

Should a participant withdraw from the program by notifying us prior to the start of the session, we will issue a full refund of the session fee less a $25 administration fee.

Should a participant withdraw from the program during the session, we will issue a pro-rated refund of the session fee (from the date we are notified) less a $25 administration fee.

The annual club membership fee is non-refundable.

There is no credit or refund for participants who miss classes. However, should a participant need to take a break from training due to medical reasons or other necessity, training fees may be suspended for their period of absence (from the date we are notified). A credit for their absence will be applied towards future session fees.

Seminar and grading fees are non-refundable, however a credit can be applied to future events with prior notice.

Classes do not run on statutory holidays.

In the event we cancel classes (statutory holidays and adult Saturday class excluded) due to circumstances beyond our control, e.g. instructor illness, public health emergency, weather emergency, etc., we will offer a credit towards future session fees if the shut-down period exceeds two weeks.
